Book Review: The Briny Cafe

Briny

If you’ve ever dreamt of making a sea-change, but have never quite had the opportunity or risk-taking nature required to do so, then read The Briny Café. It will transport you into that dreamy life, for a little while at least.

This is the first work of fiction by Pittwater’s Susan Duncan, author of the bestselling memoirs, Salvation Creek and The House at Salvation Creek.

Set in Cook’s Basin, a little place that sounds a lot like an offshore community of Pittwater, The Briny Café is a book filled with salt-of-the-earth characters, ramshackle buildings, boats and animals, and an old-fashioned sense of community.

The “offshorers” don’t take kindly to blow-ins and suspicion reigns until any newcomers prove themselves. At the Briny Café, the rundown meeting place at the heart of the community, romances blossom, meals and delicacies are created and shared, chances are taken and friendships are forged.

Light and breezy, The Briny Café is an enjoyable and simple story that exudes warmth and humour. A perfect book to read on a sunny day, guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you feel like life is worth living.
