Thirteen Steps to Manufacturing in China provides the tactics, strategies, and methodology for establishing a manufacturing plant in China. A comprehensive reference book, it provides the specific details before removing the first shovelful of dirt - living in China, where to locate, other companies' experiences, environmental requirements, utility costs and procedures for establishing a foreign investment company - to the Grand Opening of the plant. It is jam packed with details including sourcing Chinese equipment, importing used or new equipment, building construction, and permit requirements. Mitchell walks the reader through it all.
BRUCE MITCHELL, the senior engineering executive for his company, oversees all capital projects associated with strategic business growth, production capacity maximization, plant expansions, engineering and environmental initiatives in the United States and Asia. In this capacity he has implemented multi-million dollar projects establishing global facilities and manufacturing equipment installations. In 2004 he was assigned project manager for his company's Asian manufacturing expansion. His responsibilities included all aspects of the project - identifying and selection the location, company formation, equipment sourcing, building and infrastructure design and construction. Within two years the manufacturing facility was completed and operational. During this time Mr. Mitchell logged approximately 30 trips (over 400,000 flight miles) to mainland China plus Hong Kong and Taiwan and traveled to over 23 different Chinese cities meeting with over 50 equipment manufacturers, 18 design institutes and construction companies. He also met with a dozen foreign investment companies. He is well qualified to provide the necessary steps to establish manufacturing through his having lived the experience from nothing on the ground to a completed and operational manufacturing plant in a two year span. Mr. Mitchell has over 35 years engineering management experience with both Fortune 500 and private industries.
