From Upright Citizens Brigade member and star of Comedy Central's "Big Lake", Chris Gethard, this is a collection of essays chronicling the comedian's bizarre New Jersey childhood, awkward adolescence, and the hilarious misadventures that followed. Chris Gethard has often found himself in awkward and often absurd situations that most people would have safely avoided. Take his volunteering for the "Scared Straight" program (which resulted in inmates openly threatening him with rape), or his horrendously botched attempt to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a pro wrestler. Or the time he instigated a high-speed chase with a New Jersey State Trooper. "A Bad Idea I'm About to Do" collects Gethard's most popular stories of growing up a hilariously ill-fated nerd, forced to navigate the perils of adolescence with a name that spells, "Get-hard". With witty, self-deprecating charm, he invites us to revisit the joys of puberty, rejection, high school, virginity, dorm life, and beyond, and encourages us to take comfort in the fact that - as his experiences hysterically prove - things could have been much, much worse.
Chris Gethard is an actor, comedian, and writer who most recently starred in Comedy Central's series Big Lake. In addition to authoring the book Weird NY, and co-authoring the bestsellers Weird US and Weird NJ, he has written for The Onion, Comedy Central's Crossballs, and has been a guest writer for Saturday Night Live. He has performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, MTV's Human Giant, and made numerous appearances in videos for CollegeHumor.com and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's FunnyorDie.com. As a performer at New York City's The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, he has told his stories to sold-out audiences as part of the world-famous improv show Asssscat and the hit storytelling shows The Nights of Our Lives and The Chris Gethard Show. He lives in Queens, New York.
