NOTE: This was Wenz's first novel, published in serial form in the Revue de Paris in 1915 and later translated into English under the title ""The Sundowner"" (1923). It tells the story of an English pioneer who settles in the outback of Australia and overcomes initial hardships to eventually prosper. Paul Wenz was undoubtedly the most important French writer to live and work in Australia in the first half of the twentieth century.
