This is a rare book from the Berkelouw Rare Books Department.
Handwritten document on two sides of a single f'scap sheet, setting out details and conditions of employment, fully signed by both parties as well as witnessed by officials including a Japanese Inspector. The document bears a Queensland Duty Stamp and is dated 22 June 1896. In fine condition. A rare piece of early Queensland Industrial Relations history. NOTE: It is interesting to note that overtime pay was four pence per hour; in case of sickness arising from natural causes no pay was allowed; when the employee gave satisfaction in his work and wished to have a holiday he was entitled to have one if it was convenient to his employer and for each day thus granted a deduction of 50% per day was made from his wages; etc. etc.
