A fine copy. NOTE: Leaving Venice in 1599 with his brother Robert Sherley and John Manwaring, Antony Sherley travelled to Persia 'with the intention of promoting Persian trade with England. Travelling by way of Cephalonia (in Greece), Crete and Cyprus, he reached Aleppo in August 1599, then proceeded down the Euphrates to Baghdad and across the mountains to Esfahan. From there, in 1608, Robert Sherley returned to Europe as an envoy of the Shah. Anthony Sherley entered the service of Shah Abbas. and arrived at the Caspian Sea sometime in 1600' - Howgego. Boies Penrose has chronicled the story of these extraordinary Elizabethan brothers in his book, THE SHERLIAN ODYSSEY.
