This is a rare book from the Berkelouw Rare Books Department.
London: Printed by J.F. Dove, 1826. 8vo. Later hf. cf. with marbled boards. Spine gilt and with raised bands. (934pp.). E.g. With portrait of Author. Title-page slightly defective, otherwise a fine and complete copy. NOTE: Born at Kirkcaldy in Fife, the son of the comptroller of customs for the area, Adam Smith studied mathematics and natural philosophy at Glasgow and later moral and political science and ancient and modern languages at Oxford. ""The Wealth of Nations"" is not an economic system, but as a provisional analysis it is completely convincing. The certainty of its criticism and its grasp of human nature have made it the first and greatest classic of modern economic thought - ""Palgrave: Dictionary of Political Economy"".
