NOTE: Chaucer's text was edited by William Morris, whose ""aim was to recapture, without direct copying, the simplicity and vitality of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century editions of Chaucer that were closer in time and spirit to Chaucer's own age"" (From The Kelmscott Chaucer: An Afterword by William S.
