You are invited to meet Anne Summers AO, when she introduces the updated edition of her Australian classic Damned Whores and God's Police.

Damned Whores and God's Police was first published in 1975. In the 40 years since, it has sold over 100,000 copies and become an Australian classic.

In that time we have seen the introduction of the Sex Discrimination Act of 1984 and women have become increasingly visible in employment, in politics and elsewhere across society.

In this updated edition, however, Anne Summers argues that the stereotypes that characterised women in 1975 as either 'damned whores' or 'God's police' persist to this day. Who are today's damned whores? Why do women themselves still want to be God's Police? And why are sexual harassment, domestic violence and date rape still with us and on the rise? The stereotypes of bad girl vs. virtuous mother are still very much a part of our national psyche. The fight is far from over.
