The 2010 Pittwater Short Story Award

Berkelouw_pittwater_award_night

We received more than 150 entries for the third Berkelouw Books Pittwater Short Story Award. This year the stories had to be set in Pittwater and they had make reference to sandstone. The participants rose to the challenge. We had stories featuring sandstone footpaths, walls, lighthouses, cliffs and ledges. We had sandstone caves embellished with indigenous art; we had sandstone monsters and evil villains who could turn innocent people into sandstone. We had sandstone rocks that contained magical and valuable gemstones. And we had a sandstone rock that was a murder weapon!

To help us sort through these riches we had a panel of judges and we would like to thank them all – they were Ann Graham, Geraldine Ash, Gill Wood, Louise Park, Nicola Elliott, Rebeccah Vick, Sandra Nicol, Andrew Humphreys and Sheila Edwards.

On June 24th we awarded the contest winners. Harvey Rose, the mayor of Pittwater, came to present the prizes and more than 40 people attended the ceremony including writers, their friends and families.
