This is a rare or used book from the Berkelouw Rare Books Department.
New York: Tea and Coffee Trade Journal Co. 1935. Small 4to. Original gilt-decorated green cloth boards. Complete with rare slightly rubbed & stained dustjackets. With 2 frontispieces of which one is in colour numerous b/w illustrations some of which are full-page and endpaper maps. Text printed in double-column. First edition. A fine association copy (albeit with some light foxing to edges endpapers and prelims) and with the original rubber stamp of "Repin's" the first European Cafe to operate in Sydney on dustjackets and some pages. NOTE: In 1925 Ivan Dmitrievitch Repin migrated from Russia to Sydney where he founded Repin's Coffee and Tea shop. During the 1930s and 1940s Repin's became a well-known part of the social and commercial fabric of Sydney with several outlets operating throughout the city. It offered some sophistication and European elegance to coffee- and tea-loving intellectuals who rejoiced in a real cup of coffee instead of the weak milky concoction that was mostly on offer in Sydney at this time.
