The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies by Alison Goodman – 5/5 stars
A unique, disturbing and witty new historical fiction.
~High society regency era spinsters begin saving women in trouble – but the conspiracies they get themselves into are deadly.
The emotion and pace of this novel made it an absolutely thrilling page turner. The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies deals with deep feminist themes, particularly the treatment of women, and our heroes Gus and Julia are such a beautiful representation of strong women who use their influence for good. This is the perfect book for those who love Austen-esque period dramas but want more action.
