Patrick Ness, known for his Chaos Walking series as well as his beautiful graphic novel, A Monster Calls, has reworked the famous Japanese folklore tale, The Crane Wife to beautiful effect in this his latest novel. One evening a crane falls into George Duncan’s garden with an arrow shot through its wing; George helps the crane and watches it fly away. The next day he meets the kind but enigmatic Kumiko. George’s world is transformed into a creative and magical place especially when Kumiko starts to tell an extraordinary story.
I loved The Crane Wife – Patrick Ness is a beautiful writer with a flare for making the ordinary extraordinary. This story is one of forgiveness, courage and above everything else, love.
