Short Story Writing Workshop for Young Writers
2nd Apr '16 @ Berkelouw Mona Vale
Sarah Ayoub, journalist and young adult author, presents a half day workshop for writers aged 12- 17 years.
The workshop will cover three main topic areas and include plenty of time for writing and workshopping your story.
- Creating a character - learn about the different ways to write and reveal a deep, multi-dimensional character that is central to your story;
- Writing effective dialogue - steer your story where you want it to go with realistic, descriptive dialogue between characters;
- Showing not telling - set the scene, direct the pace, let your read be a fly on the wall in your character's world - paint a picture with your words.
You need to bring a pen and your notebook.
This is a great opportunity for young writers to start preparing their entries for the soon-to-be-announced 2016 Pittwater Short Story Award.
The workshop will run from 9.30 am until 1.30pm on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, in the Pelican Room at Mona Vale Library. Meet at Berkelouw Books in Mona Vale at 9.15am.
