You are invited to meet Heather Morris when she introduces her new book The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Lale Sokolov is well-dressed, a charmer, a ladies' man. He is also a Jew. On the first transport from Slovakia to Auschwitz in 1942, Lale immediately stands out to his fellow prisoners. In the camp he is looked up to, looked out for, and put to work in the privileged and confronting position of the tattooist - to mark his fellow prisoners forever.

One day as Lale is tattooing the arm of a young woman, he looks into her eyes and falls instantly in love. His life is given purpose once again.

This story of love and survival is based on years of interviews that Heather Morris conducted with the real-life Holocaust survivor and Auschwitz-Birkenau tattooist Ludwig (Lale) Sokolov. It is heartwrenching, illuminating and unforgettable.

Join us when Heather Morris introduces The Tattooist of Auschwitz at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 27 March 2018.

About the author:

Heather Morris is an Australian writer and social work administrator. For several years, while working in a large public hospital in Melbourne, she studied and wrote screenplays, one of which was optioned by an Academy Award-winning screenwriter in the US.

In 2003, Heather was introduced to an elderly man who 'might just have a story worth telling'. The day she met Lale Sokolov changed both their lives, as their friendship grew and he embarked on a journey of self-scrutiny, entrusting the innermost details of his life during the Holocaust to her. Heather originally wrote Lale's story as a screenplay - which ranked high in international competitions - before reshaping it into her debut novel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
