With a particular enumeration of the advantages which these colonies offer for emigration and their superiority in many respects over those possessed by the United States of America. London: Printed for G. and W. B. Whittaker 1819. 8vo. Hf. calf over marbled paper boards with matching endpapers. Spine with contrasting morocco titling-label. (xii 466pp.). A good copy of the First Edition bound without the half-title page as usual. 1st ed. Ferguson 771; Wantrup 53. NOTE: The Author born in the Colony went on to become a leading Statesman in N.S.W. A most important work as not only did Wentworth provide a great deal of information which helped to persuade free immigrants to come to New South Wales but he demanded very forcibly that the Colony be given free institutions. In this work he also expounds his belief in an Australian landed gentry and makes his earliest comments on the discoveries made when he along with Blaxland and Lawson traversed across the Blue Mountains. The first original work published by an Australian born author.
