NOTE: Lowe 1828-1908 served 5 years in the 1st U.S. Dragoons rising to the rank of 1st Sergeant thus this is one of the few accounts by enlisted men of life in the pre Civil War Army. Afterwards he served 5 years as a civilian in the Quartermaster's Department including the Cheyenne Campaign of 1857 and the "Mormon War" in 1858.
