NOTE: The first of the Enderby quartet and the second (and last) pseudonymous novel by Burgess who lost his position with 'The Yorkshire Post' when he reviewed this book "This is in many ways a dirty book. It is full of bowel-blasts and flatulent borborgms..." As a result Burgess gained temporary fame as literary villain.
