NOTE: In 1868 NSW was still executing criminals at a high rate although public executions were increasingly criticised. Developments such as the Treason Felony Act the end of Transportation and the Executive Council of NSW's Royal Prerogative of Mercy all occurred in 1868. Capital punishment in New South Wales was fully abolished in 1955 for murder and for all crimes in 1985.
