NOTE: Field Marshal William Joseph Slim First Viscount Slim (1891-1970) was a British officer who served in the First World War where he was wounded at Gallipoli in 1915 and then in Mesopotamia in 1917. During the Second World War he was commander of the 14th Army when it defeated the Japanese in Burma. From 1953 to 1960 he was a very successful Governor General of Australia.
