NOTE: John Gilbert (c.1810-1845) was an English naturalist and explorer who was killed by Aborigines near the Gulf of Carpentaria while with the expedition of the German explorer Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Leichhardt (1813-c.1848). Three years later Leichhardt would disappear on another expedition.
