With 13 plates (ex 18) 2 of which folded b/w and col. illustrations and portraits including William Henry Fox Talbot's 'calotype.' Previous owners' signatures on front free endpaper one of whom is connected with "Goonigul " Henry Baylis' Wagga Wagga homestead. Slight tear to pg.111. Light foxing on front and rear endpapers otherwise a fine volume of this important journal. NOTE: Highly sought-after 8th volume featuring the earliest known photograph ever to appear in a British mass-produced publication. Known as a "calotype;" "talbotype" or "sun-pictures" the photograph is taken in 1845 by Victorian British pioneer photographer Fox Talbot (1800-1877). Henry Baylis was the first police magistrate in Wagga Wagga and his historic homestead was named 'Goonigul' an Aboriginal word meaning 'plain'.
