Tallis, n.d. (circa 1851). Sm. 4to. Uniformly bound in original half calf over marbled paper boards (Vol. I rebacked preserving the original spine strip). Spines with raised bands and morocco titling-labels. (xxiv, 744, 384, 208, 176pp.). With a fine engraved illustrated title-page (foxed), 20 full-page engraved portraits, and 28 double-page engraved maps hand-coloured in outline and each with fine decorative cartouche vignette. Printed in double-column. NOTE: Several editions of this work were published, this, according to Ferguson, being the best. The author was a Member of Her Majesty's Legislative Council in China. The "Tallis" maps, in particular, are much sought after.
