Loose front hinge chipped front end-paper with excised title-page. Previous owner's name written in black ink. Heavy toning throughout with marked ageing. NOTE: This first edition of a scarce ancient Persian fable is a collection of animal stories from the Sanskrit Panchatantra tales. A classic of the genre are thought to have been assembled ca. 200 BC. A culturally important and historical work based on the translation by Joseph Harris of Les fables de Pilpay 1698.
