(London:) Genesis Publications 1979. Thick 4to. Orig. half calf over vellum. Red and gold illust. on front. Spine with raised bands and decorative red and gilt illusts. Edges gilt. Preserved in green clamshell case with gilt illust. and red morocco titling label. (30 844pp.). With green and black frontisp. 4 full-page plates and the Journal entirely reproduced in faithful facsimile from the author's hand-written original held in The Royal College of Surgeons of England. Silk-wove endpapers. Green ribbon marker. Ed. lim. to 500 copies of which 50 copies have been bound by the Zaehnsdorf Bindery this being one such copy bound by Zaehnsdorf numbered 179 and signed by "G.P. Darwin" and "R.D. Keynes". Fine copy in a handsome binding. NOTE: In 1859 Charles Darwin published his "On the Origin of species by Means of Natural Selection" which was to establish him as one of the pre-eminent figures of the 19th century. The observations which provided the foundation for one of the most revolutionary theories ever put forward had been carried out by the author more than twenty years before and are recorded in this Journal.
