Sydney 1923-1942. Thick 8vo. Orig. cloth (flecked and stained). Profusely illust. Slight foxing and toning on endpapers and text-blocks throughout varying in intensity. Previous owners signature on front free endpaper of Volume 3 and half title-page of Volume 7. Previous owners stamp on front free endpaper of Volume 8. Hinges in Volume 9 and 12 cracked. Ex-lib. stamp on front free endpaper of Volume 1 and on publication pages of Volume 4 and Volume 11. Additional newspaper articles loosely inserted into Volume 6 including an article glued to Pp. 135 not affecting the text. A working set. NOTE: The complete official history of Australia's role in W.W.I including The Story of Anzac The A.I.F. in France The Photographic Record of the War with magnificent reproductions of pictures taken by the official photographers (Frank Hurley et al.) etc. It was Charles Edwin Woodrow Bean (1879-1968) Australia's official war historian who more than any other was responsible for shaping the Anzac legend.
