Facsimile reprint of London 1800 edition. NOTE: After three years had passed by without any news of the ill-fated expedition under La Perouse the French Government sent out to the South Seas two vessels the Recherche and the Esperance under the command of D'Entrecasteaux and Kermadec to search for La Perouse. Among the scientists was the naturalist attached to the Expedition Labillardiere. Although entirely unsuccessful in its search the voyage was of considerable importance. Labillardiere gives the first scientific description of the New Zealand flax and he brought back several New Zealand plants. He describes the visits paid by the expedition to Tasmania New Caledonia Solomon Islands New Guinea Tongan or Friendly Islands New Zealand etc. etc.
